Hello, I live in Rome but I've never heard about such schools; but there are two American Universities instead, maybe they teach art too...
2 :
There are dozens of art schools in Florence, I'd imagine some of them even have classes in English. At the University of Bologna for example many master's programs are taught in English not Italian (I don't know specifically for art, but I would assume that some of them are also taught in English).

School trip to Italy

School trip to Italy?
We're going in November for 8 days to Florence & Rome with day trips to Pisa, Siena, and the catacombs. The fee for the total trip is $2,144. I'm pretty sure this is a good deal, right? :) It includes tickets, room & board, admission fees, breakfast & dinner, etc. Should I go? I'm not sure. I'd have to get a job over the summer to meet my uncle halfway for the fee...is November a good time of year to go? Is there anything I should know? How long does it take to get a passport (I don't have one)? Tell me anything and everything you know and want to share. :D

I think you should go. Our school is going to Costa Rica next year but for $100 cheaper. If your school is anything like mine, we got college credits for it and If you're planning on going to college it would help out.
2 :
I'm guessing this is with EF Tours.. I do my trips through EF College Break, but I hear those regular EF Tours are just as amazing( (just less free time).. It is a good deal, and those places are amazing.. Traveling is definitely worth getting a job for! You'll have a blast..
3 :
i'd would definitely go! i went on a tour with my school last year and it was the best experience of my life! italy is really beautiful and the price sounds pretty good. enjoy :)
4 :
1. Get the passport application in ASAP. It can take some time to get them processed now. Don't quibble or hesitate. 2. If leaving from the East Coast of the USA, the fee looks reasonable for group travel. If flying out of other than the East Coast, the rates are exceptionally good. Do it! 3. Go, when will you get the chance again? Yes, November is excellent because European holidays (vacations) usually end in mid-September. There are some parts of Italy where hotels close for the off-season (usually until May).
5 :
Is a good price because Italy is much expensive!!!
6 :
GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GO GO GO GO GO GET A JOB so what you gotta take responsibiltity AND your uncles paying half 1072$ all u need is 1072 you can make that over the sumer November is a good time to go because it gets EXTREMELY hot there so during this time of year it will be perfect .
7 :
I did a similar trip for a similar price (it was a little more expensive- couple hundred dollars)- it was amazing! I'd never left North America before so that was incredible. TOTALLY worth the experience. I went to Venice, Rome, Florence, Sienna, Pompeii, Assisi... very beautiful. So if you're wondering for price, that's typical for your type of trip. A lot of the students going on our trip were in a similar position about paying. They could do it, and none of them regretted it. Passports- the sooner you have it done the better, the length of time varies, but you don't want to be in a panic as the trip looms. Pretty much all I can say it was so much fun- especially if you go with your friends. Take a big memory card, but see the sights don't fixate on taking pictures. Enjoy as much as you can, bring home souvenirs, try as much food as you can (or not. I lived off gelato/pizza/pasta). Wear running shoes, you'll be doing a lot of walking! If you can afford it- GO.

If I want to study in Italy, does my school have to offer it as a minor/major

If I want to study in Italy, does my school have to offer it as a minor/major?..?

Studying Abroad - 3 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
No, the school doesn't "have to" offer a study abroad program.
2 :
You don’t necessarily have to study the language of the country you want to study abroad in… i.e. there may be an Art History or Architecture or History class taught in English. What you will need to do is see if the school/s you apply to offers study abroad programs to Italy. Some schools are very specific and only offer 2 or 3 choices, while other schools may allow you to study almost anywhere… Another thing to think about is the benefit of taking at least a semester (or quarter) of Italian so you have some conversational skills. Good luck!
3 :
Well, your school has to accept the work you have done abroad as part of your course. If they don't, you're effectively taking a year out rather than studying abroad. You really need to ask your school how they will view the courses you plan to take in Italy and whether they will count towards your degree.

Study what in Italy? Italian? I think you should check with your schools personally, since it's a thing that varies. Some universities have exchange/study abroad programs with European colleges, some do not. If you want to go to Italy, ask your school if they have a program there and what the requirements are. As far as I know (in my university anyway) you can study a lot of things abroad. Some people go to Finland for a semester and take things like Physiology, Anatomy, etc. They are taught in English because it's an "American" extension of a Finnish university. So ask your schools.

I'll b graduating from dental school next yr what is the employment 4 women like n Italy and Spain?
I've often admired both places and my becoming a dentist I often hope to visit and perhaps live in a different country. Spain and Italy are both dear to me and I really want to get an idea of the employment market for female dentist. That way I can make one of them my place of residence.

Well, there should be the same opportunities and careers there are for men in Spain and Italy.. this isn't 1950's.
2 :
Employment is the same for men and women, but you would absolutely have to speak Spanish and pass their medical exams of course. There's no dearth in the market for dental careers...now if you were a nurse or OB/Gyn specialist...
3 :
Look I am Italian and a medical student. You really don't want to move to Italy! Italy is VERY different from how it is romanticized in movies and such, especially when it comes to the business side of it. Once you are a dentist, can you wait for 10 days to get phone line and electricity hooked up? Can you waste time personally going to the postal office every time something goes wrong? Can you afford not to work for 3-4 days every time something breaks in your practice? Can you afford working from 8-9 in the morning to 8 pm because the staff and the culture *demands* you to take a 3 hr break for lunch? Can you put up with patients constantly asking you for a discount, not showing up on time, not wanting to pay for your expertise? If you can do all of this, then Italy offers lots of employment, and it doesn't really matter what gender you are, although there are folks who prefer to go to male doctors "just because".

2 :
many italian girls like to make short skirts out of a table cloth, many will also make socks from this table cloth and wrap the rest around their head. They will make fun of you if you do not look italian, the biggest way to stand out as not italian is to not carry a clear umbrella, ALL italians have clear umbrellas and if you also have one under your arm you will blend in. open it when it rains and carry it in sun but the clear is very important as only american and french will dare to put a pattern or solid color on their umbrellas, my neighbor did this and got beat the #### up and was forced to move to little italy in the america.

What cell phone carriers are in Italy

What cell phone carriers are in Italy?
I am traveling to Italy for a school course, and was hoping to take my cell phone with me, or buy a trak phone to take with me to call home. I need to know what carriers there are in Italy, or even other options that do the same thing?

well, kind of depends on who you have here. I heard that most of Europe (and for the rest of the world) use what AT&T and T-mobile use: GSM (which has a small card) The technology that Verizon and Sprint uses doesnt work in most of Italy. Wikipedia gave me 4 carriers in Italy: Telecom Italia Moblie, Vodafone, Wind and 3...looks like Telecom Italia and Vodafone are the most popular ones. So, if you have either AT&T or T-mobile, you might be able to buy a small sim card there and use it. It will save you money (cuz AT&T and T-mobile's international rates are a lot and they charge by the minute)
2 :
Major carriers in Italy - Vodafone, WIND & TIM. You can get a local Italian SIM card even before you leave your home Country i.e. you will know you phone number from before + you pay in your local currency. Try RebelFone, link below:
3 :
Forget the Trak phone, will not work in Europe. You need an unlocked cell phone, such as phones from AT&T or T-Mobile that use GSM or QUAD 4 band technology. When you get there buy a sim card from a Vodafone vender or from a Vodafone store. They are all over Europe and are very very economical. I used Vodafone service in France, Italy, Spain, and Portugal. I bought an unlocked Motorola Razr V3 on ebay. It never let me down. Good luck and have a nice trip!!! :)

Your Iphone can work in Italy on all Italian GSM networks as long as you have roaming activated on your AT&T Price plan. However this is expensive, expect at least to pay 2$ for an outgoing call and 1$ for any incoming call. A better solution is to unblock your IPhone ( Your current phone only will accept AT & T sim cards ) and then buy a prepay card in Italy with an Italian local telephone number. You are going to pay about 15 US$ for this. 20 Cents for outgoing calls in Italy 40 cents to the US and NO INCOMINGS CHARGES AT ALL. UNLIMITED INCOMINGS CALLS ALLOWED.

There are 42 medical schools in Italy. The International Medical Education Directory has links to each school's web site (if the school has a web site). http://imed.ecfmg.org/search.asp A cautionary note for you: If you plan on living in Italy, being educated there is fine. But if you plan on returning to the US to live, you're going to encounter some difficulty. First, as a foreign trained physician, you'll have to pass all of the USMLE exams. There is a very high failure rate for foreign trained physicians--partially due to the length of time between learning the basic sciences and being tested on them and partially due to the emphasis US programs place on the basic sciences. Secondly, if you do not complete your residency training in Italy and try to come back to the US for residency, you're going to be placed lower in the competition for slots simply because you are a foreign trained physician. You'll have to score exceptionally well on the USMLE exams in order for a Program Director to have a comfort level with your education. That said, it sounds like fun. Good luck.

I was lucky enough to spend a summer studying in Italy, but I was already in college then. All I can say, is it was the most amazing 3 months of my life! We were based in a pensione in Florence, but got to travel on the weekends. I was able to visit Rome, Pisa, Lucca, San Giminiano, Bologna and Venice, and each city was incredible. If you like art, history and learning the language, you will absolutely LOVE it!!! Hope you get to go!!!
2 :
Speaking as a former exchange student, though not to Italy, there is nothing I could say to discourage you from doing foreign exchange and everything I can say to encourage you. It will be the most amazing experience you can imagine. The place, however, isn't as important as you might think it is: wherever you go you will have an amazing year. I went to Hungary through the Rotary Youth Exchange, and I have friends who went all over the world, including Italy, and none of them had negative experiences. Go for it. Go to Italy or go somewhere else, but if you think foreign exchange is right for you then do it.
3 :
Studying abroad during high school is different than during college... nevertheless, I would really suggest it for you. I never was able to during my high school career, though, but I did during college. By studying abroad during high school, you will have different experiences than if you went your junior year of college. Those are good experiences, too, but going in high school is different in a good way, since we often see things differently at 17 than at 20 or 21. If your high school grades are in good shape, please go! Make sure you get a program with a host family, since it is THE BEST way to establish yourself, get into the language, and not be so homesick or lost. I would imagine you are interested in learning the language since you want to study in Italy, and would consider a foreign language major in college. Even if you go during high school, you can go for a semester or even a year during college. You could go back to Italy or even another country. If you have the host family experience while in high school, then you will be more ready to live on your own or in student housing in a foreign country. If YOU feel ready to spend a few months in another school, do go!! I have a friend who spent a few months in Belgium during high school, and when I met him freshman year at college, he had better french than many of the senior french majors who hadn't gone abroad in high school (but did in college). Besides, the foreign exchanges can be wonderful for both schools, families and communities. Study abroad in high school is just the start of many, many wonderful experiences. It'll also give you a boost for college admissions and foreign language programs. Good luck!

How can an I.B student in middle school study in Italy

How can an I.B student in middle school study in Italy?
I am a 6th grade I.B (international baccalaureate) student . Even though the course is more advanced than other classes I still receive straight A's on my report card. ( i have been an A student for my whole life). I really want to study in another country .I would like to learn Italian over the summer and try to study there in the future. I know I won't be able to study there this year because of my family's financial situation.I told my mommy but she said that won't be able to happen . I decided to look it up . THEN i realized it would be SUPER EXPENSIVE!!!!! The MEAL plan ONLY was $1400 FOR 15 WEEKS!! PLUS i will need a student visa and a place to stay so we could just say it will add up to be expensive.I am not like those little rich kids who can get everything they want and i don't like to stress my parents (they already have enough of that).I just want to do this to further my education,go to a GREAT collage, become a pediatrician, make a positive change in the world (even if it is a small one),and make sure my parents are proud of me and live long enough to see me do that, and i would like to do this to to see Italy. How can I study in Italy at a low price ?

Well once you get to high school, in your sophomore year you should look into applying to the United World Colleges programme. All American students of the program are paid for on full scholarship and are sent to one of 13 international schools one of which is in Duino, Italy. However they'll only accept applications from Sophomores and Juniors so just stick it out and study Italian until then.

I've hosted 12 exchange students now. The idea is NOT for them to "live in your pocket" while they are staying with you! You should introduce them around -- and maybe find someone else at school interested in introducing them around as well. Get them involved in some activities ... they need to make their own friends. However, you do need to make sure they are included in your major activities -- parties, social events, ball games, etc. However, you are not expected to have them go with you ALL the time either. Remember though, when YOU go on your exchange, that you need to make friends on your own as well! What goes around, comes around. You make this person feel welcome, they will make you feel welcome! For general info on being an exchange student, have a look at this website: http://www.exchangestudentworld.com/

Would high school students be able to drink while on a field trip to Italy

Would high school students be able to drink while on a field trip to Italy?
I am an 18 year old high school student from the United States and my class is going to Italy this spring for a field trip. Some of my friends and I were wondering if we would be able to drink while we were out un Italy. What are the drinking age limits in Italy? Are there any restrictions on us drinking because we're Americans?
Law & Ethics - 4 Answers

There is no law stating a limit of age for drinking any kind of alcoholic drink, art 689 Codice Penale forbids serving alcoholic drinks to minors under 16 in public places like restaurants, pubs, etc. A proposal to increase the purchasing age to 18 has been rejected by parliament in 2007. Your teachers may be risking their jobs if they allow you to drink, its not just about the law. When I was 12 years old we went to France (from UK) where we were allowed to drink wine, but the teachers made us keep the bottles off the tables, I think so they would not be in a photos

You can drink. My school [UK] go around europe all the time. The teachers don't enjoy it, but who cares. They impose restrictions on you such as being 'home' at a certain time. But no, no laws stopping you. Its legal! Enjoy
3 :
There is no law about you drinking but since you are traveling with you school you are required to follow the rules they set out. If you are drinking your chaperones could cause problems for you when you return. You could get suspended from school. If your chaperones are cool then you probably will be able to sample and drink a little as long as you act responsibly and appropriately and don't get piss ass drunk. You are of legal drinking age in Italy though.
4 :
I'm Italian. Yes, you can drink alchol in Italy from 16 years old. There are any restriction on you!

I'm going to italy for four months with a school program, what do you think my baggage allowance will be?
I'll be in Italy from September to December. I'm not sure what airline we are going on yet but does anyone have a rough idea what kind of baggage limits there are for people traveling for four months?

two large luggage's
2 :
No. You get the same luggage allowance whether you are going for a week or a year. The airline does not care about how long you are going for just how much the bags weigh.

What to pack for a school skiing trip

What to pack for a school skiing trip?
Next year in february I'm going on a school trip to Italy but don't know what to pack. It will be for about a week and it shouldn't be too cold. A complete kit list would be really handy but any advise would be welcome. Also does anyone have any recommended ski kit or suppliers for ski wear that are fairly cheap but good? Is ebay any good for ski wear? p.s. I do have to pack a helmet.

Yes bring a helmet you never know what will happen Books/ Magazines Ebay is very good I got a ski jacket the other day that was 79.99 for 35.99 brand new and designer This will sound weird but bring apples for the journey they make you feel so refreshed as they have more caffeine than coffee, believe me on this one they work :L Jeans Jumpers Scarves Gloves Thermal socks/underwear/gloves Lipbalm lips get extremly chapped in cold weather Sunscreen the glare from the snow can burn you just as bad as somewhere hot 2 pairs of skiing gloves it's amazing how you can easily lose gloves up their I don't know how your getting their but a pillow for the transports always handy, neck ache can kill Painkillers don't want to spend your trip in pain Plasters/ Blister plasters ski boots can rub Also plug sockets so that you can plug all your appliances into their sockets. That's all that comes to my mind at the moment, I'm going on a school ski trip to Andorra next week been on two other ski trips already so I'm just sharing what I found helps :) I've also been to Italy skiing in February the weather wasn't that cold either :) Hope you have a great time, I'm sure you will :)

Your Mom should be able to help you with this. You should currently have a valid Jamaican passport...you will need that for the trip. If you do NOT have a valid Jamaican passport, you need to apply at the nearest Jamaican consulate to get one. See 1st website below. You will also need a visa. See the 2nd site below for a list of the Italian consulates in the U.S. Your Mom will need to contact the nearest one and get the info to apply for a visa for you.

Hello! I'm Italian and I attend an High School that in Italy is "Liceo Scientifico"

Hello! I'm Italian and I attend an High School that in Italy is "Liceo Scientifico"?
So, in my English revision, there was a question, I had to complete with a word: "My best friens helps me ... my homework". I had to use one of those verbs: - to have - to do - to see Which is the correct form? (I wrote "doing", please say to me that it's correct :)) And an other question: "My father ... washing up"? What verb is correct in this occasion?
Languages - 4 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
The correct forms would be either: My best friend helps me to do my homework or My best friend helps me with my homework.
2 :
It would "sound" better to say "he helps me DO my homework." or "he helps me TO DO my homework." You don't need the gerund form (-ing) here...
3 :
You can simply say: My best friend helps me DO my homework. or if you are referring to many best friends, you may say: My best friends help me DO my homework.
4 :
well in the first question its my best friend helps me to do my homework. and the 2nd one is is my dad is washing up la fortuna buona a inglesi il mio amico

How about they teach similar subjects.. but in thier own language. America as a whole is behind much of the world on schooling, and often our kids are behind if they go to a foreign school. Most foreign schools in Europe teach ENglish in addition to their native language.. and there is much more focus on music and art.

school trip to italy...help

school trip to italy...help?
in about a year, i have the chance to go to italy over spring break. i don't want to be ignorant though, and only speak english. i take spanish and can speak and understand that well enough, but will that be enough? what kinds of words should i learn by then? i know airport and restaurant related words, but i don't know what else. thanks a ton:)

I had the same situation when I went to Italy to visit some family. Spanish can get you by a little- some of the people I met were able to speak Spanish. Some Italian words are the same as in Spanish, but some are quite different. Also-- be careful on your pronunciations! Some Italian words with c in them are pronounced with ch. Some verbs are the same, such as bailar but a lot of them are different (can't think of any Italian verbs off the top of my head) The endings are a little different too... I suggest just getting a basic book of Italian, or searching Italian online, just enough so you know basic verbs, endings, articles, etc, and your Spanish knowledge should be able to do the rest.
2 :
Hi! I'm italian. I'm 15 and I'm from Bergamo, in the northern Italy. If you wont, I can help you with your italian. I wait for your message. Bye
3 :
Myth. Every Italian understands a little english. Myth. Spanish is just like Italian. Myth.. Some rudimentary knowledge of Spanish will "get you by" I would try to learn as much Italian between now and then, as possible. Babbling in Spanish or speaking English LOUDER, contrary to popular opinion...........does not really work very well.

Many stamps from Italy have a picture of a woman on them whom I think is supposed to depict Italy as a person. It could be she wears the female equivalent of a toga. And a crown.
2 :
Wow...as an Italian its hard to say. I guess just use something with their flag which is Green, White, and Red. But it's funny cause the Italian National team in sports and olympics uses the color Blue. Known as the Azzuri's...Blue is representative for the Mediterranean sea. You could just get a plain old t-shirt and right BELLA! or BELLISIMA! on the front! Bella means beautiful and Bellissima means beautiful girl!!
3 :
Get her to wear the National futbal squad uniform! Or if not, Then get her to wear a green shirt, white shorts and red sox, to represent the flag and carry an 'Azzuri' soccer ball :)?
4 :
Just dress with a baguette in your hand, a beret, scarf( either a regular white scarf or hanker scarf) corduroy.

Should Italy export schools of soccer to teach the know-how of the game

Should Italy export schools of soccer to teach the know-how of the game ?
expecially in france I mean, there is an urgent need of those schools. Some players could misunderstand soccer and wrestling. @lachieboy : what about Malouda's dive against Italy in the final ? shamefull, no?

Just because Italy won the world cup is no reason to think that you are soccer gods. It took you 93 minutes to score against Australia, and you got that penalty from a dive! So before you talk about how France think soccer is wrestling, remember that any Aussie would tell you that the Italian soccer team should represent Italy at the Olympics for Diving. my 2 cents. Apologies to anyone who was offended.
2 :
no...coz all italians are divers...
3 :
come down to earth....Italy didn't beat Australia in the world cup ..the penalty that was given to them ...the one gol that won the game was given to them by the refereeeeeeeeeeeeeee...you didn't deserve to be the champs...Australia play better than Italy and you know that,,,,
4 :
Italy is the world cup winner, but that doesn't make them totally the best when it comes to football.Brazil is still the number one.So I guess,Brazil should export schools of football to teach the know-how of the game.
5 :
No thnx.We wanna play soccer with its rules and ethics. We dont wanna fix matches. We like our style. So keep ur schoold full of cheaters and divers in Rome.
6 :
gr8!!! first u try to set up tht school with proper rules n regulations, n thn later talk abt it!
7 :
yes they should. Italy is the best team in Europ they won 4 times and They r the 1st european to win the World cup.
8 :
France already has a good education system, no need to export Italian football - create too homogenous style of football if exported which is boring.
9 :
yeah, the headbutting is for WWE wrestling. zidane, stop watching the fake wrestling shows too much! how could that guy forgetten what italian coaches try teach him in the recent past?? you new rookie students should start wearing azzurri shirts to learn italy soccer better!

Can you suggest me any good American school in Milan, Italy?
I'm 13 and we just migrated last year to Italy. I'm having a really hard time learning the language. The teachers at my school creeps me out and I don't have any friends there. I want to transfer to a school here in Milan where they speak English. Please help me :( everytime I think about my school, I feel like crying. I'm just really having a hard time there and my classmates are bullies. Plus, none of them speaks english so, I can't ask anyone for help. Not even the teachers! They try to understand me when I ask them something but they reply in Italian. I'm always like "excuse me, what?" :( Thank you.

Generally speaking, your school does not offer exchanges. You must apply through an outside organization. The top three are AFS, YFU and Rotary. Rotary is the cheapest, but most competitive. You don't need to be a "top" student, but a solid B average is necessary. You have to show that you can handle the academic work in another county. Once you apply for a program, you need to work with your school on your schedule to make sure you graduate on time. The program finds the school and host family. As to paying for it, some of the programs offer scholarships.

Hi, I'm Italian and I'm trying to plan the same thing for the US, and I guess you're American. I'd like to spend my 4th High School year in the United States, and in order to do that I've asked my English teacher, who just gave me some sheets about AFS-Inercultura, an organization which is concerned about these programs. After some reading and some "investigations," I found out that doing programs with one of these organizations does NOT allow you to choose the exact area (the state, in my case) where you can stay, so you can end up in places you wouldn't like to stay. (For example, I'd like to go somewhere either on the East- or on the Westcoast, but with AFS, EF, STS, etc. I can't choose.) You may go to a place up in the mountains, far from everyone and everything, or in a bad place to study in. I can suggest you do what I have done until now. Try going to your local Italian Consulate or to the Embassy in Washington, DC and ask whether it's possible for you to get organized on your own. Then, if you have contacts here, get in touch with them and talk to them about this issue. Ask them to find for you a school and a family that can host you, and only at this point, if you are satisfied with the area, school, family, etc., you can apply for a visa at the Italian Embassy. Remember that in Italy most schools are public and free, so you only have to pay for your books and school stuff (notebooks, pens, etc.). Also, depending on what you are studying now, you ought to choose the school that best fits your subjects. I do not suggest you go to a Liceo Classico or Liceo Scientifico because they're very difficult, and classical subjects (Latin and ancient Greek, especially in Liceo Classico) are fundamental parts of their academic courses. If you want to go to one of these schools anyways, get fluent in spoken and written Italian, because it is the most important subject. I hope I gave you some useful tips. Also, we can get in touch if you want to.

Where would a high school trip to italy go

Where would a high school trip to italy go?
My school is taking a 10 day trip to italy next year and I'm not 100% sure whether or not i'm going yet...i really, really want to though, or where in italy we're going other than rome. Do you have any ideas of where a high school trip would go in italy. Like what cities/regions (Venice, Milan, Tuscany, Amalfi, Sicily, etc). We don't get to pick where we go...but what are the cities that you can't miss that are appropriate for high schoolers to visit. Like cities that are the highlights of Italy

I recomend cities in north Italy. Vence, Florence, Genova and others. Sicily is great too, but its too far from other destinations.
2 :
Your teacher chooses the trip from a long list of possibilities. It all depends which trip he/she chooses. Most likely you will go to Rome, probably Pisa, Florence, Venice, and possibly Naples/Pompeii, but that depends entirely on which trip the teacher chooses as most appropriate to what they teach and what they feel is important for you to see in ten days.

Should i move to Italy or Greece and go to High school there

Should i move to Italy or Greece and go to High school there?
well i currently go to school in the USA and I just really don't want to stay here anymore. Im 15 and im entering the 10 grade. My family is planning on moving there next summer. My dad is a citizen of Italy and my mom is a citizen of greece so moving there shouldn't be a problem. I want to know if going there would be a Academic suicide or if i would be fine. I currently go to one of the best schools in boston and im afraid that im ruining my future. If i go to an international school there will i be able to get into a university easily? If i decide to move back will i have a problem getting into college here, or will they see that i went to high school here and was a good student? Which has better schools Athens or Italy?

Question on School Portraits in Italy

Question on School Portraits in Italy?
So I came up with an idea that I think would be great here in Italy. Considering I grew up in the States and every year until I graduated school we had Picture Day...not just the group shots but individual pictures as well. I noticed that here in Italy they don't do the individual pictures with the various packages and print sizes. All they do is group shot of the class and that's it. Now I'm not a professional photographer with a studio or anything but I have taken various classes and know how to work a camera. I would go to the schools and have the classic "picture day", then take the prints to a local photography store and have them developed. I would like to one day be able to operate from my own studio, but to start out I think that's the only way to go about it. What I'm looking for is some suggestions on how to go about getting this started. Could this be something interesting and innovative here in the town I live in and the surrounding towns, or am I just going to be wasting my time and money. Any sort of feedback would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

no, it's not a waste of time and money.. what you're doing is great.... and a single small step will help you a lot... so opt for these individual snaps and you'll surely owe a studio of your own in the future! good luck..:)
2 :
I'm wondering what town you live in. I do freelance photography in Germany, Im stationed here with my husband. I know the same thing applies to the schools here, off post there aren't yearly school portraits. In my opinion I don't think it would be cost effective to open a business that provides packages for every student in the school. Printing costs are much higher in europe, as is everything else, than in the states. Even if you had them shipped to Italy through a US company. The concept in the states is to provide the entire package and you just buy the prints you want, the money is made by what the students purchase and the remaining photos are discarded. They do this on post here for the kids and families, these companies make you pay a sitting fee to pay for the costs of the prints and give people an incentive to purchase more by giving you the free 8x10 that is not the best shot, but showing you the others. I know these companies exist around the posts in Italy, not sure about the economy itself. I think a better idea would be to market yourself as a freelance photographer first, you can build your equipment starting with a nice camera and tripod, and then as you build a client base market yourself at the schools rather than trying to jump through the hoops to be the schools exclusive photographer.

Distribution and the processing of orders is the hardest part of volume photography. Perhaps you could start with a small day care, nursery school or kindergarten and work your way up. I suggest pre pay because most schools and teachers do not want to be responsible for the collection of money. The schools need to be promised a percentage of the income in order to comply. 25% to 35% should be built into your package price.
