what is the best design school in florence, italy

what is the best design school in florence, italy?
I can't seem to choose an option. I've narrowed my choices to three: accademia italiana, florence design academy and florence institute of design. Hello, I live in Rome but I've never heard about such schools; but there are two American Universities instead, maybe they teach art too...

There are dozens of art schools in Florence, I'd imagine some of them even have classes in English. At the University of Bologna for example many master's programs are taught in English not Italian (I don't know specifically for art, but I would assume that some of them are also taught in English).

School trip to Italy

School trip to Italy?
We're going in November for 8 days to Florence & Rome with day trips to Pisa, Siena, and the catacombs. The fee for the total trip is $2,144. I'm pretty sure this is a good deal, right? :) It includes tickets, room & board, admission fees, breakfast & dinner, etc. Should I go? I'm not sure. I'd have to get a job over the summer to meet my uncle halfway for the fee...is November a good time of year to go? Is there anything I should know? How long does it take to get a passport (I don't have one)? Tell me anything and everything you know and want to share. :D

I think you should go. Our school is going to Costa Rica next year but for $100 cheaper. If your school is anything like mine, we got college credits for it and If you're planning on going to college it would help out.

I'm guessing this is with EF Tours.. I do my trips through EF College Break, but I hear those regular EF Tours are just as amazing( (just less free time).. It is a good deal, and those places are amazing.. Traveling is definitely worth getting a job for! You'll have a blast..

i'd would definitely go! i went on a tour with my school last year and it was the best experience of my life! italy is really beautiful and the price sounds pretty good. enjoy :)

1. Get the passport application in ASAP. It can take some time to get them processed now. Don't quibble or hesitate. 2. If leaving from the East Coast of the USA, the fee looks reasonable for group travel. If flying out of other than the East Coast, the rates are exceptionally good. Do it! 3. Go, when will you get the chance again? Yes, November is excellent because European holidays (vacations) usually end in mid-September. There are some parts of Italy where hotels close for the off-season (usually until May).

I did a similar trip for a similar price (it was a little more expensive- couple hundred dollars)- it was amazing! I'd never left North America before so that was incredible. TOTALLY worth the experience. I went to Venice, Rome, Florence, Sienna, Pompeii, Assisi... very beautiful. So if you're wondering for price, that's typical for your type of trip. A lot of the students going on our trip were in a similar position about paying. They could do it, and none of them regretted it. Passports- the sooner you have it done the better, the length of time varies, but you don't want to be in a panic as the trip looms. Pretty much all I can say it was so much fun- especially if you go with your friends. Take a big memory card, but see the sights don't fixate on taking pictures. Enjoy as much as you can, bring home souvenirs, try as much food as you can (or not. I lived off gelato/pizza/pasta). Wear running shoes, you'll be doing a lot of walking! If you can afford it- GO.

No, the school doesn't "have to" offer a study abroad program.

You donâ€™t necessarily have to study the language of the country you want to study abroad inâ€¦ i.e. there may be an Art History or Architecture or History class taught in English. What you will need to do is see if the school/s you apply to offers study abroad programs to Italy. Some schools are very specific and only offer 2 or 3 choices, while other schools may allow you to study almost anywhereâ€¦ Another thing to think about is the benefit of taking at least a semester (or quarter) of Italian so you have some conversational skills. Good luck!

Well, your school has to accept the work you have done abroad as part of your course. If they don't, you're effectively taking a year out rather than studying abroad. You really need to ask your school how they will view the courses you plan to take in Italy and whether they will count towards your degree.

Study what in Italy? Italian? I think you should check with your schools personally, since it's a thing that varies. Some universities have exchange/study abroad programs with European colleges, some do not. If you want to go to Italy, ask your school if they have a program there and what the requirements are. As far as I know (in my university anyway) you can study a lot of things abroad. Some people go to Finland for a semester and take things like Physiology, Anatomy, etc. They are taught in English because it's an "American" extension of a Finnish university. So ask your schools.

I've often admired both places and my becoming a dentist I often hope to visit and perhaps live in a different country. Spain and Italy are both dear to me and I really want to get an idea of the employment market for female dentist. That way I can make one of them my place of residence.

Well, there should be the same opportunities and careers there are for men in Spain and Italy.. this isn't 1950's.

Employment is the same for men and women, but you would absolutely have to speak Spanish and pass their medical exams of course. There's no dearth in the market for dental careers...now if you were a nurse or OB/Gyn specialist...

Look I am Italian and a medical student. You really don't want to move to Italy! Italy is VERY different from how it is romanticized in movies and such, especially when it comes to the business side of it. Once you are a dentist, can you wait for 10 days to get phone line and electricity hooked up? Can you waste time personally going to the postal office every time something goes wrong? Can you afford not to work for 3-4 days every time something breaks in your practice? Can you afford working from 8-9 in the morning to 8 pm because the staff and the culture *demands* you to take a 3 hr break for lunch? Can you put up with patients constantly asking you for a discount, not showing up on time, not wanting to pay for your expertise? If you can do all of this, then Italy offers lots of employment, and it doesn't really matter what gender you are, although there are folks who prefer to go to male doctors "just because".

many italian girls like to make short skirts out of a table cloth, many will also make socks from this table cloth and wrap the rest around their head. They will make fun of you if you do not look italian, the biggest way to stand out as not italian is to not carry a clear umbrella, ALL italians have clear umbrellas and if you also have one under your arm you will blend in. open it when it rains and carry it in sun but the clear is very important as only american and french will dare to put a pattern or solid color on their umbrellas, my neighbor did this and got beat the #### up and was forced to move to little italy in the america.

I'm pretty sure you can only be trained to be a nurse in the country in which you plan on being a nurse. If you want to be a nurse in Europe, learn the language of the country you want to live in. I'm pretty sure they wouldn't teach someone who only speaks English how to be a nurse in that country.

I am traveling to Italy for a school course, and was hoping to take my cell phone with me, or buy a trak phone to take with me to call home. I need to know what carriers there are in Italy, or even other options that do the same thing?

well, kind of depends on who you have here. I heard that most of Europe (and for the rest of the world) use what AT&T and T-mobile use: GSM (which has a small card) The technology that Verizon and Sprint uses doesnt work in most of Italy. Wikipedia gave me 4 carriers in Italy: Telecom Italia Moblie, Vodafone, Wind and 3...looks like Telecom Italia and Vodafone are the most popular ones. So, if you have either AT&T or T-mobile, you might be able to buy a small sim card there and use it. It will save you money (cuz AT&T and T-mobile's international rates are a lot and they charge by the minute)

Major carriers in Italy - Vodafone, WIND & TIM. You can get a local Italian SIM card even before you leave your home Country i.e. you will know you phone number from before + you pay in your local currency. Try RebelFone, link below:

Forget the Trak phone, will not work in Europe. You need an unlocked cell phone, such as phones from AT&T or T-Mobile that use GSM or QUAD 4 band technology. When you get there buy a sim card from a Vodafone vender or from a Vodafone store. They are all over Europe and are very very economical. I used Vodafone service in France, Italy, Spain, and Portugal. I bought an unlocked Motorola Razr V3 on ebay. It never let me down. Good luck and have a nice trip!!! :)

Your Iphone can work in Italy on all Italian GSM networks as long as you have roaming activated on your AT&T Price plan. However this is expensive, expect at least to pay 2$ for an outgoing call and 1$ for any incoming call. A better solution is to unblock your IPhone ( Your current phone only will accept AT & T sim cards ) and then buy a prepay card in Italy with an Italian local telephone number. You are going to pay about 15 US$ for this. 20 Cents for outgoing calls in Italy 40 cents to the US and NO INCOMINGS CHARGES AT ALL. UNLIMITED INCOMINGS CALLS ALLOWED.

Hey! Any information would be great about Medical Schools in Italy. Information such as locations, pre-requisits, requirments, lenght of study and so on. I am an undergrad who is actually spending a semester in Rome next spring...so speaking Italian is not a problem (I already know it). I just would rather study aborad for a medical degree. Thanks!

There are 42 medical schools in Italy. The International Medical Education Directory has links to each school's web site (if the school has a web site). http://imed.ecfmg.org/search.asp A cautionary note for you: If you plan on living in Italy, being educated there is fine. But if you plan on returning to the US to live, you're going to encounter some difficulty. First, as a foreign trained physician, you'll have to pass all of the USMLE exams. There is a very high failure rate for foreign trained physicians--partially due to the length of time between learning the basic sciences and being tested on them and partially due to the emphasis US programs place on the basic sciences. Secondly, if you do not complete your residency training in Italy and try to come back to the US for residency, you're going to be placed lower in the competition for slots simply because you are a foreign trained physician. You'll have to score exceptionally well on the USMLE exams in order for a Program Director to have a comfort level with your education. That said, it sounds like fun. Good luck.

I was lucky enough to spend a summer studying in Italy, but I was already in college then. All I can say, is it was the most amazing 3 months of my life! We were based in a pensione in Florence, but got to travel on the weekends. I was able to visit Rome, Pisa, Lucca, San Giminiano, Bologna and Venice, and each city was incredible. If you like art, history and learning the language, you will absolutely LOVE it!!! Hope you get to go!!!

Speaking as a former exchange student, though not to Italy, there is nothing I could say to discourage you from doing foreign exchange and everything I can say to encourage you. It will be the most amazing experience you can imagine. The place, however, isn't as important as you might think it is: wherever you go you will have an amazing year. I went to Hungary through the Rotary Youth Exchange, and I have friends who went all over the world, including Italy, and none of them had negative experiences. Go for it. Go to Italy or go somewhere else, but if you think foreign exchange is right for you then do it.

Studying abroad during high school is different than during college... nevertheless, I would really suggest it for you. I never was able to during my high school career, though, but I did during college. By studying abroad during high school, you will have different experiences than if you went your junior year of college. Those are good experiences, too, but going in high school is different in a good way, since we often see things differently at 17 than at 20 or 21. If your high school grades are in good shape, please go! Make sure you get a program with a host family, since it is THE BEST way to establish yourself, get into the language, and not be so homesick or lost. I would imagine you are interested in learning the language since you want to study in Italy, and would consider a foreign language major in college. Even if you go during high school, you can go for a semester or even a year during college. You could go back to Italy or even another country. If you have the host family experience while in high school, then you will be more ready to live on your own or in student housing in a foreign country. If YOU feel ready to spend a few months in another school, do go!! I have a friend who spent a few months in Belgium during high school, and when I met him freshman year at college, he had better french than many of the senior french majors who hadn't gone abroad in high school (but did in college). Besides, the foreign exchanges can be wonderful for both schools, families and communities. Study abroad in high school is just the start of many, many wonderful experiences. It'll also give you a boost for college admissions and foreign language programs. Good luck!

How can an I.B student in middle school study in Italy

How can an I.B student in middle school study in Italy?
I am a 6th grade I.B (international baccalaureate) student . Even though the course is more advanced than other classes I still receive straight A's on my report card. ( i have been an A student for my whole life). I really want to study in another country .I would like to learn Italian over the summer and try to study there in the future. I know I won't be able to study there this year because of my family's financial situation.I told my mommy but she said that won't be able to happen . I decided to look it up . THEN i realized it would be SUPER EXPENSIVE!!!!! The MEAL plan ONLY was $1400 FOR 15 WEEKS!! PLUS i will need a student visa and a place to stay so we could just say it will add up to be expensive.I am not like those little rich kids who can get everything they want and i don't like to stress my parents (they already have enough of that).I just want to do this to further my education,go to a GREAT collage, become a pediatrician, make a positive change in the world (even if it is a small one),and make sure my parents are proud of me and live long enough to see me do that, and i would like to do this to to see Italy. How can I study in Italy at a low price ?

You could try getting a scholarship - many programs give financial aid.

Well once you get to high school, in your sophomore year you should look into applying to the United World Colleges programme. All American students of the program are paid for on full scholarship and are sent to one of 13 international schools one of which is in Duino, Italy. However they'll only accept applications from Sophomores and Juniors so just stick it out and study Italian until then.
